Scott Caron is a professional director, whose mission is to affirm the experiences of others through art that is derived from empathetic leadership. While his passion for feminism, anti-racism and queer representation inform the themes of his work, his experiences with new works, as well as his time as a choreographer, educator and actor inform his practical approach.
During his 2018 residence at Gloucester Stage Company under Artistic Director Robert Walsh, Caron developed a handful of new works. He directed a staged-reading of Rough Out by Broadway veteran and Drama Desk Winner Jim DeMarse, as well as a queer-focused production of Virtuous Reality by Boston playwright Hortense Gerardo for Boston Theater Marathon XX. He served as an assistant director/dramaturg under Ellie Heyman (Director in Residence of Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater) for the World Premiere of Wendy Kesselman’s Madame Defarge, as well as under Walsh on the World Premiere of My Station in Life.
Scott choreographed and assistant directed Gloucester Stage Company’s 2018 production of Dancing at Lughnasa. Under the direction of Benny Sato Ambush, the production received outstanding notices, including for Caron’s choreography, which “…casts a dreamlike spell” [Don Aucoin, The Boston Globe], and eventually won the 2019 IRNE Award for Best Play (Small Theater.)

As co-founder of the Regatta Players, a theater group in Central Massachusetts, for which he served as a Board Member for seven years, Scott made his directorial and choreographic debut with the group’s 2017 production of First Date: The Musical. He steered the company to outstanding critical reception with a sold-out run of Evita, a production that centered contemporary feminist politics and the personal experiences of his female cast members.
Scott is also an educator, having has coached over 500 students in public speaking and dramatic performance in the context of interscholastic Speech and Debate competitions over the past 10 years at 3 different institutions. Among these students, approximately 100 have achieved placement at State and National Championship Tournaments. He utilizes methods learned in his own acting career to critically engage drama and public speaking students in their craft through exercises, lectures and master classes. In addition to Speech and Debate, Scott has also taught and directed educational theater with Stagedoor Manor and Boston Children's Theater.
Scott's passion for directing theater grew from his dynamic career as character actor. He has appeared in regional theaters in throughout the east coast with roles ranging from Flounder in Disney’s The Little Mermaid to Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar. Most recently, he appeared in the Time’s Out New York Critic’s Pick, The Imbible: A Spirited History of Drinking Off-Broadway at New World Stages.
He is a 2012 graduate of the Hartt School (University of Hartford), holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre. Scott is currently on the Performing Arts Faculty at Milton Academy in Massachusetts, and serves on the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League At-Large Board.
Scott's expertise in coaching dramatic performance and public speaking is grown from 10+ years of experience. From teaching high school students to directing professional actors, Scott tailor-fits his approach to each artist with insights gained from a diverse career of experience.
